January 28, 2004 - 1:34 p.m. Tooty, FruityWhen I was grocery shopping on Sunday, I happened upon the produce section and the peaches just smelled wonderful. I thought to myself, “Self, why don’t you buy a few of those to help you on your way to becoming a thinner you?” I replied, “Well, Self, that is a wonderful idea. I think I’ll do that.” Larry looked at me strangely for talking to myself, then shrugged it off as he knows I am strange like that anyway and helped himself to a couple Granny Smiths. I picked out three lovely, plump peaches and brought them into work on Monday. Now, I know there are people out there that just love fruit. Fruit, fruit, fruit, fruit, fruit. There are people that fruit and veggies is all they eat. Me? I’m just not one of those people. I ate my first peach today and while delicious, it just didn’t do it for me. I still want to go back to the kitchen and eat something solid. A hunk of meat, a block of cheese, a piece of chocolate. Okay, chocolate isn’t sustenance, but it sure tastes good. So, yeah, peaches. Taste great. Less filling. I dropped my car off yesterday for an oil change and when I went to pick it up there was a mother there picking up her car. Her teenaged daughter had dropped her off and was getting ready to drive away. The mother knocked on her window and mouthed, “Be careful.” The daughter blew her a kiss and took off. I sat there horrified that in 15 years that would be me! I’m not ready for my baby to drive! It’s not safe. What if he’s in an accident? Then I started thinking about how much trust and faith it takes to drive a vehicle. You have to trust that the other person isn’t going to come into your lane. You have to truth that when you are making a left, that the person across from you will make a left also and not hit you head on. You have to hope that the other people are at least paying somewhat attention as they operate their automobile and won’t just run you off the road or into your backseat. It’s just funny how little we think about such an important and possibly life changing aspect of our lives.
